RS Holdings and UMI enter business alliance to achieve GX: Green Transformation

RS Holdings Co., Ltd. (Representative Director: Kaname Wakabayashi, hereinafter “RSHD”) and Universal Materials Incubator Co., Ltd. (Representative Director: Shosuke Kiba, hereinafter “UMI”) have entered into a business alliance agreement to jointly explore financing methods and joint ventures for the social implementation of various new technologies aimed at achieving GX (Green Transformation).

RSHD aims to contribute to local communities and a sustainable future by providing clean electricity from renewable sources, operating grid-scale battery storage with cutting-edge technology, and developing real estate projects that support GX. With its strong asset management capabilities and a group-wide portfolio exceeding 500 billion yen, including renewable energy plants under management, RSHD has established a solid track record through close cross-company collaboration.

UMI, a venture capital firm specializing in the materials and chemical industries, focuses on investment activities tailored to these sectors, as well as supporting materials startups and creating new businesses. In particular, UMI has recently been working with Kawasaki City to develop an industrial base for these activities in the Minami-Watarida district of Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, with climate tech at the core of world-changing innovation in materials. Additionally, in Yamaguchi Prefecture, UMI is participating in the “New Business Development and Support Taskforce” established by the prefectural government to guide discussions on the designation of GX strategic zones.

Going forward, both companies will promote initiatives aimed at achieving GX in Japan by jointly exploring financing methods to support startup development, new business creation, and the establishment of an industrial base.
